Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation

What is it?

There are two ways to perform breast augmentation. The first, which is the most common, is with an implant: either silicone or saline. This is usually placed through a small incision that is either under the muscle, or over the muscle, in the subfascial space. A thorough consultation with Dr. Hartmann will determine which implant position is right for you. The second method for breast augmentation utilizes your own fat to augment the breast. The fat is harvested and injected into the breasts. This method results in a very modest increase in volume. Regardless of method, breast augmentation can be extremely impactful for the patient.

Am I a candidate?

Candidates for breast augmentation alone have good nipple position. Up to date breast imaging to screen for breast cancer will be mandatory if you are over 40 years of age.

Recovery

Recovery following breast augmentation is approximately 2 weeks without exertional activity. At 6 weeks, you may return to gym activities; this includes lifting weights. All stitches dissolve under the skin. You will have a compression bra to wear 24/7 for the first 2 weeks and then you may switch to your own sports bra with good support. You will have to sleep on your back for 6 weeks as well. The implants will take 3-6 months to settle into their position.
