What is it?
Breast reduction is a very common procedure that can dramatically improve the quality of life for the patient. The breasts are not only reduced but also lifted to achieve a higher, tighter, smaller, and prettier breast.
Am I a candidate?
Dr. Hartmann will determine your candidacy for a breast reduction. For those seeking insurance-based breast reductions you will need a referral from your primary care provider. You will need to qualify based on two factors: 1) You meet the symptom requirements (e.g. chiropractor or physical therapy attempted, rashes, neck and shoulder pain, shoulder grooving, etc), and 2) Dr. Hartmann determines you meet the breast tissue requirements stated by your insurance company (based on your height and weight). Please note, approval of your referral does not guarantee that you will be a candidate. Dr. Hartmann must do an exam to determine your candidacy. We recommend you contact your insurance company to understand their unique requirements for authorization. Up to date breast imaging to screen for breast cancer will be mandatory if you are over 40 years of age.
Before & Afters
What is recovery like?
Recovery following breast reduction is approximately 2 weeks without exertional activity. At 6 weeks, you may return to gym activities; this includes lifting weights. All stitches dissolve under the skin. You will have a compression bra to wear 24/7 for the first 2 weeks and then you may switch to your own sports bra with good support. You will have to sleep on your back for 6 weeks as well. Scarring will fade over the first year.
