Breast Surgeries

Breast Augmentation

There are two ways to perform breast augmentation. The first, which is the most common, is with an implant: either silicone or saline. This is usually placed through a small incision that is either under the muscle, or over the muscle, in the subfascial space. A thorough consultation with Dr. Hartmann will determine which implant position is right for you. The second method for breast augmentation utilizes your own fat to augment the breast. The fat is harvested and injected into the breasts. This method results in a very modest increase in volume. Regardless of method, breast augmentation can be extremely impactful for the patient.

Internal Bra Technique with Galaflex HD

Occasionally patients do not have enough strength in their tissues to support an implant. This is especially true for massive weight loss patients who have lost vital elasticity and strength to their fascia. Gala flex HD is an excellent option to reinforce the implant position. This mesh is dissolvable in approximately 18 months. This is an excellent option either in the first augmentation, or for a subsequent revision to improve implant position.

Breast Lift

A breast lift is a wonderful way to utilize your own breast tissue to improve the shape of your breasts and elevate the nipple. Dr. Hartmann uses a technique which repurposes your own breast tissue to create an internal lifting effect. The incisions are typically through a lollipop incision. At your consultation she will determine the best procedure to achieve your desired results. For the patient, this is a transformative surgery.

Breast Lift and Augmentation

Certain patients require both a volume and shape improvement with the structure of an implant, and also elevation of the nipple and removal of sagging breast tissue. Aside from certain particular situations, these surgeries can typically be done at the same time. The incision line is typically a lollipop incision unless the anatomy dictates an anchor incision. Patients find the results to be transformative and impactful.

Breast Reconstruction

Dr. Hartmann sees a variety of breast reconstruction patients- for some, it is their first reconstruction, for others, they have undergone previous surgeries and are looking for revision. Some patients present just after a breast cancer diagnosis and seek immediate reconstruction. Some patients have healed from their mastectomy and are now seeking reconstruction. Finally, some patients can experience breast asymmetry following lumpectomy and radiation. Reconstruction, much like augmentation, can be completed with implants or with your body’s own tissue. Dr. Hartmann does not perform free tissue reconstruction (DIEP flaps, free TRAM, SGAP) however a referral can be made. These surgeries are transformational for the patient.

Breast Reduction

Breast reduction is a very common procedure that can dramatically improve the quality of life for the patient. The breasts are not only reduced but also lifted to achieve a higher, tighter, smaller, and prettier breast.

Breast Revision

Patients may seek revision of their current breast implants for a multitude of reasons. Some might be experiencing a problem such as firmness or misshapen implant, while others are simply looking to improve their appearance.

Breast Asymmetry and Congenital Anomalies

Breast asymmetry and impairments in breast growth (Poland Syndrome, Tuberous Breast, Constricted breast, etc) can be a particularly debilitating issue for patients of all ages. Restoring symmetry in clothing is of paramount importance for improving their self-confidence. These surgeries are often considered reconstruction and may qualify for insurance coverage. You may want to call your insurance company to inquire and our office can assist you in this process. These surgeries are very impactful for the patient.

Gynecomastia

This is a particular problem of abnormal breast tissue growth in genetic males who identify with a male gender (cis males). A variety of incision types can be utilized depending upon the amount of extra skin and fat. Liposuction is included as well to help contour and create a more masculine chest. A very impactful surgery for the appropriate patient.

Breast Implant Removal

There are times when patients request the removal of their implants for a variety of reasons. Typically this can be done through the existing scar. At times the capsule (scar tissue around the implant) is also removed and this can be discussed at your time of consultation. A breast lift can be done at the same time to improve the sagging appearance of the breast tissue.
